Zara Larsson has been named The Trevor Project’s 2026 Mental Health Champion of the Year, recognizing the Swedish pop star’s advocacy for LGBTQ+ young people and her willingness to speak openly about mental health.
The honor was announced ahead of World Mental Health Day on October 10. The Trevor Project gives the annual recognition to public figures who use their platforms to challenge stigma and support the well-being of LGBTQ+ youth.
Zara Larsson recognized for advocacy
Larsson has been a visible supporter of LGBTQ+ communities throughout her career, appearing at Pride events and speaking publicly in support of transgender rights. She has also discussed her own experiences with anxiety and ADHD, helping bring mental-health conversations into her relationship with fans.
The singer said she has never understood having a public platform without using it to speak about issues she believes in. That approach has made advocacy a consistent part of her public identity alongside her music.
The Trevor Project emphasized the importance of visible allies at a time when many LGBTQ+ young people continue to report serious mental-health challenges and difficulty accessing appropriate care.
A major year for Larsson
The recognition comes during Larsson’s Midnight Sun era and while she is touring internationally. It also places her alongside previous Mental Health Champion honorees including Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa.
For Larsson, the award reflects a side of celebrity influence that extends beyond charts and streaming numbers. Her willingness to combine pop stardom with public advocacy has become an increasingly important part of her relationship with fans.
