Ben Affleck Finally Answers the ‘Gone Girl’ Prosthetic Question

Ben Affleck has settled one of the more unusual debates surrounding David Fincher’s 2014 thriller Gone Girl. More than a decade after the movie’s release, the actor confirmed that he did not wear a prosthetic for the film’s much-discussed shower scene.

Affleck addressed the question in a new Variety interview while promoting his latest work. His answer was direct: the nudity seen in the scene was not created with a body prosthetic.

Affleck clears up the long-running rumor

The Oscar winner explained that the only prosthetic he remembers wearing for a movie was a nose for Hollywoodland. His Gone Girl scene, by contrast, did not involve that kind of movie trickery.

The moment became a pop-culture talking point when Gone Girl arrived in theaters in 2014. Directed by David Fincher and adapted from Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel, the psychological thriller starred Affleck as Nick Dunne opposite Rosamund Pike’s Amy Dunne.

Why Affleck trusted David Fincher

Affleck has also spoken about the confidence he had in Fincher while making the movie. He described working with the director as an important creative experience and indicated that his trust in Fincher made him willing to take risks required by the role.

Gone Girl became both a commercial hit and a major awards contender. Pike earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, while the movie’s twists, performances and examination of marriage kept it in the cultural conversation long after its theatrical run.

A mystery finally resolved

For viewers, the new interview closes a question that has circulated online for years. Affleck’s response also offers another behind-the-scenes detail about a film whose production continues to fascinate fans.

The actor’s comments came as part of a wider conversation about his career, filmmaking and Artists Equity, the production company he founded with Matt Damon.
