Ben Affleck Calls Justice League Reshoots the Low Point of His Career

Ben Affleck has revisited one of the most difficult chapters of his career, describing the troubled reshoots for Justice League as his professional low point.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Affleck reflected on the 2017 superhero film and the upheaval that followed director Zack Snyder’s departure. Joss Whedon was brought in to oversee extensive reshoots, dramatically changing the movie before its theatrical release.

Affleck reflects on a difficult production

Affleck said the experience showed him what can happen when a studio and filmmaker are no longer aligned. He also expressed support for Snyder eventually being able to release his own version of the film, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, in 2021.

The actor’s comments add another first-hand account to the long-running discussion surrounding the production. Several cast members have previously spoken publicly about the atmosphere during the reshoots, while the theatrical cut received a mixed response and underperformed against expectations.

A different perspective on Batman

Affleck first played Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and later returned for Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League and The Flash. Although his time as Batman was marked by major changes behind the scenes, his performance developed a strong following among DC fans.

His latest remarks separate his feelings about playing Batman from the production problems surrounding Justice League. The interview also arrives as Affleck continues to focus heavily on directing and producing through Artists Equity, the company he co-founded with Matt Damon.
