Tom Hiddleston Says Fatherhood Is the Most Important Role of His Life

Tom Hiddleston has opened up about how becoming a father reshaped his priorities, calling parenthood the most important role he will ever have.

The 45-year-old Loki star discussed family life in a new Esquire UK interview, explaining that raising two children with his fiancée, actress and playwright Zawe Ashton, has changed the way he sees himself and the world around him. Hiddleston and Ashton met while appearing together in the stage production Betrayal in 2019 and became engaged in 2022.

The couple welcomed their first child in 2022 and confirmed the arrival of their second child in late 2025. They have largely kept their children away from the spotlight, but Hiddleston said fatherhood has brought a new sense of purpose and responsibility to his life.

The actor also revealed that his work has unexpectedly become a way to introduce his children to history and storytelling. Characters and projects can spark conversations at home about real people, places and events, giving his career a different meaning now that he is a parent.

Despite a busy schedule that continues to include major film, television and stage projects, Hiddleston made clear that family comes first. He also said he would support his children if they eventually became interested in acting, while stressing that their own choices would matter most.

For an actor best known around the world as Marvel’s Loki, Hiddleston’s latest comments offer a rare glimpse at the quieter role he now considers more meaningful than any screen performance.
