Mariska Hargitay is teasing a major Benson and Stabler reunion as Christopher Meloni prepares to return to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for the show’s milestone 600th episode.
Hargitay, who has played Olivia Benson for decades, says there is still a special chemistry when she works with Meloni. The actors’ partnership became one of television’s most recognizable crime-drama pairings before Meloni left SVU in 2011.
Christopher Meloni returns to SVU
Meloni later returned to the franchise as Elliot Stabler in Law & Order: Organized Crime, allowing the characters to cross paths again. His appearance in the 600th episode gives the long-running series another opportunity to revisit the relationship that helped define its early years.
Hargitay described the reunion enthusiastically and suggested fans can expect the familiar energy between Benson and Stabler. She said the decision to bring Meloni back for the milestone was collaborative.
The episode arrives during Season 28, another remarkable marker for a drama that has remained a major part of NBC’s schedule for more than a quarter century.
SVU celebrates a television milestone
The 600th-episode celebration will not be the season’s only special appearance. NBA star and longtime SVU fan Jalen Brunson is also expected to guest star in a future episode.
For longtime viewers, however, the return of Stabler is likely to carry the greatest emotional weight. Hargitay and Meloni’s on-screen partnership has continued to generate discussion years after their original run together, making the reunion a fitting centerpiece for SVU‘s latest historic milestone.
