Greta Gerwig’s Narnia Trailer Reveals First Look at The Magician’s Nephew

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, offering the clearest look yet at the filmmaker’s ambitious return to C.S. Lewis’s fantasy world.

The movie adapts the 1955 novel that explores the creation of Narnia, taking audiences to events that occur long before The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The trailer introduces the scale of Gerwig’s vision while teasing key figures including Aslan and Jadis, the White Witch.

An all-star cast enters Narnia

The film pairs newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell with a major ensemble that includes Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep. Gerwig both wrote the screenplay and directs the project.

The movie also reunites Gerwig with composers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who previously collaborated with her on Barbie. The first trailer uses Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, giving the footage a distinctive musical identity.

Narnia gets a theatrical event before Netflix

Unlike many Netflix originals, The Magician’s Nephew will receive a significant theatrical rollout. The film is scheduled to open in IMAX and theaters worldwide on February 12, 2027, with IMAX previews beginning February 10. It will then arrive on Netflix on April 2.

Gerwig has described Lewis’s story as deeply important to her since childhood, particularly the idea of a world being created through music. The new adaptation is the first screen version centered specifically on The Magician’s Nephew.

The trailer marks a major milestone for one of Netflix’s most closely watched upcoming films and gives longtime Narnia fans their first substantial look at how Gerwig is reimagining the franchise.
