Roseanne Barr is preparing another television comeback with a new independently produced sitcom titled Meemaw.
The comedian revealed that the eight-episode project was quietly filmed in Austin, Texas. Barr stars as the matriarch of a mixed-race family of preppers who is determined to organize an unforgettable Bat Mitzvah for her granddaughter.
Who is in the Meemaw cast?
The series features Randy Quaid, Drea de Matteo and Omar Gooding, with appearances from performers including Doug Jones, Jon Lovitz and Mo’Nique. Social media personality Indy Bugg is also part of the project.
Barr co-wrote the series with Allan Stephan and Allen Covert. She has described the show as semi-autobiographical and said its comedy is designed to target ideas across the political spectrum rather than one side.
Does Meemaw have a network?
The biggest unanswered question is where viewers will be able to watch it. The project does not yet have a confirmed distributor, meaning Barr and the producers will need to secure a network or streaming home before a release date can be announced.
The show represents Barr’s most significant attempt at a scripted television return since her departure from ABC’s Roseanne revival in 2018. Whether Meemaw lands a distributor could determine the next phase of her television career.
