Mckenna Grace is embracing her place in the Hunger Games universe with a fashion tribute to the franchise’s original heroine. The actress stepped out in Paris wearing a dramatic gown inspired by the wedding dress Jennifer Lawrence wore as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Grace wore the look while attending the opening of Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style, and Power of Panem, a costume exhibition in Paris. The appearance arrives ahead of the release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, in which Grace plays twins Maysilee and Merilee Donner.
Mckenna Grace recreates a memorable Katniss fashion moment
The white gown featured a sculptural metallic bodice and a voluminous ruffled skirt, immediately recalling one of the most recognizable costumes from the 2013 film Catching Fire.
In that movie, Katniss wears the elaborate wedding gown during an interview with Caesar Flickerman. The costume then transforms into a dark Mockingjay look, turning fashion into an act of rebellion against President Snow and the Capitol.
The original costume was designed by Indonesian designer Tex Saverio. Grace’s Paris appearance used the visual language of that famous scene to connect the upcoming prequel with the earlier films.
Grace is joining the franchise in ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’
Grace will appear in Sunrise on the Reaping as Maysilee and Merilee Donner. The story takes audiences back to the Second Quarter Quell and follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, decades before he becomes the mentor known to Katniss and Peeta.
The movie expands a franchise that began with Lawrence as Katniss in 2012 and later returned to an earlier era of Panem with The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
The actress says she was already a major fan
Grace has made no secret of her enthusiasm for the series. She has described herself as a fan of the books and has spoken about the excitement of joining a project that already has a passionate global audience.
That enthusiasm makes the Katniss-inspired gown more than a conventional red-carpet reference. It works as a bridge between the generation of actors who launched the film franchise and the cast now taking audiences into another chapter of Panem’s history.
Fashion has always mattered in ‘The Hunger Games’
Clothing in The Hunger Games is rarely decorative. From Katniss’ ‘girl on fire’ image to the Mockingjay transformation, costumes repeatedly communicate politics, rebellion and identity.
The Paris exhibition’s focus on style and power makes Grace’s choice particularly fitting. By referencing the wedding gown, she tapped into a costume whose meaning changes on screen from Capitol spectacle to open defiance.
Ahead of a major new chapter for Panem
Sunrise on the Reaping is scheduled to reach theaters in November, putting Grace and her costars at the center of another major promotional cycle for the franchise.
Her Paris look suggests that the rollout will actively celebrate the visual history of the earlier movies rather than separating the prequel from what came before.
For fans, the result was an instantly recognizable tribute: a new Hunger Games star stepping into a fashion moment made famous by Jennifer Lawrence, just weeks before audiences return to Panem.
