How Does Alex Honnold Get Down After His Climbs? Here’s His Response!

Alex Honnold impressed the world this past weekend with his free solo climb of Taiwan’s Taipei 101 tower, but one question on many minds was: how does he get down?

The 40-year-old climber stood all the way on top of the world’s 11th tallest building during Netflix’s Skyscraper Live special, filmed live on Sunday morning (January 25).

Alex completed the climb of the 101-story building in just 95 minutes.

In an interview with GQ, which was released a few days after the climb, Alex answered the question about getting down.

“The answer is, it depends. Generally I walk down. Sometimes I downclimb, sometimes I repel. I have soloed things where I carried a rope and then repel back down. But for the most part, most things you free solo are big cliffs and you can hike off the back side. So you just climb up and then scramble on down the back,” Alex said.

So, how did get down from Taipei 101?

Multiple reports claim that Alex put on a harness and repelled from the top of the tower to a lower platform, where he then went inside and eventually took the elevator to the bottom.

Get the scoop on how much money Alex was paid for the Netflix live event.
